10 Awesome Things To Do At Home

April 7, 2020

If you are struggling with your time at home, I’ve put together ten awesome things to do. From Broadway on your laptop to virtual art gallery and museum tours, dive right in and maybe even learn something new.

1. ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER MUSICALS ONLINE FOR FREE

I love the theatre and just before all of this happened I attended the opening nights of Prince of Egypt and Pretty Woman, two new shows which have hit the London West End. Unfortunately the whole West End is now shut down but you can still get your musical fix at home. Andrew Lloyd Webber has launched a YouTube channel where he is showing some of his best musicals. The Shows Must Go On channel will be showing a musical every week and this Good Friday 10th April will be Jesus Christ Superstar starring Tim Minchin, Melanie C and Chris Moyles. The show goes live at 7pm BST for a limited 48-hour period online and there is no charge or sign up required.

2.  BROADWAY ONLINE

Musicals tend to hit Broadway before the UK, so why not sign up to watch some of the latest. Broadway HD has a seven day free trial where you can catch shows like Cats (without the CGI), Oklahoma with Hugh Jackman, The King and I, Kinky Boots, 42nd Street and favourites like Les Mis. You can also watch plays like Macbeth with Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen’s King Lear. To get the most out of the HD streaming service you may want to upgrade or change broadband providers to ensure you’re getting the best experience. Faster internet speeds will almost guarantee uninterrupted streaming. To switch, compare broadband deals in your area.

3. MASTERCLASS WITH ANNA WINTOUR (& MANY MORE!)

Cookies Cupcake Jemma Kits - 10 Awesome Things To Do At Home

Masterclass is a great resource with celebrities and experts hosting masterclasses on their specialised subject. I recently completed James Patterson guide to writing a novel which I’d highly recommend. Next on my list to watch is Anna Wintour’s guide to creativity and leadership.  They currently have a buy one membership get one free, so you can gift a friend or maybe split the cost to enjoy a year of top classes. Everything from Gordon Ramsey cooking to Jodie Foster teaching filmmaking. Image: Cupcake Jemma Instagram

4. AT HOME CUPCAKE & COOKIES KITS

Cupcake Jemma owns one of the best cupcake shops in London, Crumbs & Doilies and she has put together bake at home cupcake and NYC cookie kits. This week I made the cupcakes and it was so simple to use the kit and follow along her easy how-to video. I have the cookies currently on order and I can’t wait to make them, I’ve been dreaming about New York bakery Levain Bakery cookies since my last visit and as I won’t be heading there any time soon I can’t wait to recreate my own at home. Pick up a kit here and if cupcakes and cookies aren’t your thing then check out Doughnut Time’s decorating kits.

5.  PELETON CLASSES FOR FREE

You don’t need a peleton bike to do some of their classes, just sign up for a free 90 day trial to their home workout app. The app normally has a 30 day free trial but they are now offering 90 days to try out a variety of classes including yoga, HIIT and strength training. Sign up for your free trial here.

6.  FREE LIBRARY BOOKS ONLINE

Sadly for book lovers we won’t be able to hit up our favourite library currently, but The Internet Archive now have a resource of over 1.4 million books online to read or listen to digitally for free. So whether you need to catch up on your studies or fancy a new book to read you should be able to find it here. Find it at the Internet Archive.

7.  SHAKESPEARE AT THE GLOBE

The Globe in London is known for their fabulous Shakespeare performances and they have now made their previous productions available to watch for free on the Shakespeare’s Globe YouTube channel. There will be six productions; Hamlet (2018), Romeo & Juliet (2009), The Winter’s Tale (2018), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2013), The Two Noble Kinsmen (2018) and The Merry Wives of Windsor (2019) with each of them available for two weeks.

8. CLEAN TO YOUR FAVOURITE MUSICAL

Good music makes a musical and why not clean or dance along to your favourites with this helpful list put together over on the Evening Standard. Twenty-one West End musical cast recordings to sing along too including Matilda, Wicked and & Juliet, which has a playlist with songs from the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears and Jessie J, definitely my favourite.

9.  VIRTUAL ART GALLERY & MUSEUM TOURS

We can’t go to the galleries so why not bring them to us with a virtual tour. Check out some of the top galleries and museums across the world including the Vatican Museum in Rome, Musée d’Orsay in Paris and one of my favourites the National History Museum in London, you can view their virtual tour here.

10.  GOOGLE PICTIONARY

Maybe you are working from home and need a lunch time break of random fun? Google Draw is just that, play Pictionary with your very own Google friend as Quick, Draw! challenges you to draw an item and see if it can guess what it is. Alternatively challenge it with Auto Draw and see if it can work out what you are drawing. Hours of fun!
