A roof terrace serving fried chicken and cocktails in the sunshine? I’m in!

Coqbull has took over Jamie’s Italian building in Soho just off Piccadilly. It has three floors plus a roof terrace where they are serving up fried chicken, burgers, hot wings and cocktails, plus more-ish desserts like waffles and ice-cream and a warm cookie pan.

I went down this week to try it out and luckily we were blessed with sunshine and were able to enjoy the roof terrace area.

Starting off with a couple of Coqtails, Pornstar Martini of course and I had to try one of the Frozen Daiquiris, the strawberry one was perfect and they have a good selection of cocktails including Jammy Dodger which is a rum and gingerbread mix to Smokey Berry with Caskmates whisky and blueberry.

For starters we had Popcorn Chicken with Habanero Mayo, tasty little bites of peppery chicken with a tangy sauce and the Halloumi Fritters which were lightly fried with gooey halloumi and the Pomegranate Seeds and Creme Fraiche added a complimentary lighter taste.

I was torn between the rotisserie chicken for main or the Southern Fried Chicken, but the latter won out in the end. The Southern Fried chicken comes with coleslaw, fries and a side of roast chicken gravy which was delicious! I love my gravy and so a pouring pot is exactly what I needed. The chicken was tender and the fried coating tasted really good.

We also had the Southern Fried Coq burger which adds a bit of spice with the chillied red onions and fiery Coq sauce against the sweet Brioche bun.

For dessert we shared the Oreo Waffle, waffle layered with Oreos, ice-cream and chocolate sauce, it was just as you would expect, sweet and chocolatey. We were both so full from the chicken that this was a nice sweeter way to finish off the meal.

Coqbull was just as I expected, comfort food with good cocktails, the perfect place for a weekend brunch and they have just launched a new boozy drag brunch from June 5th so if that’s your thing, then make a booking quick!
