Walking down the side of the Southbank river between now and the 24th December you might (you will) stumble across the Southbank Christmas Market!
The market is a traditional German market complete with Christmas music, beautifully lit wooden huts, the smell of sausages and would you believe kangaroo burgers!
Mulled wine or otherwise known now to me as ‘Glühwein’ was flowing, with the optional Jagerbombs added to the mix. The market plays host to the usual type of stalls; sweets, hand-made jewellery, furry hats, games, hand crafted candles and rather unusually a fake snow stall.
One of my favourite huts was a hot chocolate stall, with all different types including Bailey’s, Caramel and Orange. I had a mint hot chocolate with cream which was fab!
The hog roast stall was so mouth-watering, with massive pans cooking up winter treats. Throughout the whole market there is such a winter wonderland feel and with the backdrop of the Millennium Eye and Big Ben it really sets the scene. Trees are covered in fairy lights and there is also an ice rink by the Eye for those more adventurous among us (I can’t skate to save my life).
Running all along the Southbank side, it is open everyday until December 24th!
