MUA Makeup Academy has fastly become one of my favourite make-up brands, it’s inexpensive, performs so well and has such a vast array of products and colours, that they just keep creeping back into my make-up bag. Before Christmas I met with MUA and they took me on a visit to the top of The Shard for a Q&A for their blog and share with me their latest collections, meanwhile taking in the 360 degree panorama view.
One of the collections MUA Luxe, is one you might not be so familiar with and on first look you wouldn’t be wrong for thinking it looked slightly higher end. But this is MUA Cosmetics and when I say higher end here, most things are priced under £10. I was so impressed by the Luxe range especially the liquid lips, that I thought I’d share with you my thoughts on the collection.
MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer – I feel like liquid lipsticks are everywhere at the moment, Kylie Jenner even has her own range, that no one can get seem to get their hands on! MUA’s Luxe lip velvet lacquers firstly smell delicious, like you’ve just opened a pack of sweets and put them on your lips. I tried out a few of the colours and they are all such a strong pigment, Vivacity is a bright fuchsia shocking pink that Barbie would be proud of, Zest is bright red with an orange tone that is definitely my favourite, whereas Tranquility is a warm nude colour, I had high hopes for loving this colour, but it just wasn’t my colour on at all. They feel amazing on the lips and definitely give that matte liquid lip look. There are brighter colours such Symphonic – a purple and even Potency – an extreme black, one for the goth in you or for Halloween. At £3 each there is no excuse not to experiment.
MUA Luxe Whipped Velvet Blush £3 – These are amazing cream blushes. My favourite of the two was the colour Spry, it just goes with pretty much must make-up looks and definitely my everyday. It’s so easy to put on and I have always normally preferred a powder blush, but this definitely has sold me on cream blush. Apply as little or as much as you want to really build up the colour. It comes in five different shades with the other one shown here Rococo being a bright pink, but once on, you can blend it to not be as vibrant.
The MUA Bronze & Sculpt Contour Kit £10 is a must. I loved how the compact had a highlighter and contour shade in one compact, complete with mirror. The highlighter was a beautiful shimmer, whilst the darker shade is great for contouring. It comes in two colours Light/Medium and Medium/Dark, I had the latter of the two and I would definitely opt for the lighter option as the contour shade is very dark for a fair skin, even if you wear fake tan and are quite fair I would go for the Light/Medium.
The MUA Luxe eye palettes are £8 each and have a blend of similar colours in 10 metallics shades, going from lighter to darker. The Utopia palette is a mixture of golds, nudes and browns which I loved and created some gorgeous looks for me over Christmas, whereas Paradise is rose pinks, plums and browns. I tended to opt for the cooler shades than the warm ones for my skin tone, but these are very easy to mix with a blending eyeshadow brush to create your perfect shades.
Also for eyes is the MUA Luxe Precision Felt Eyeliner £3, this is easy enough to use, has a sharp point and ideal for creating those flicks. I really loved the MUA Luxe Powerbrow £3, this is a thin pencil/crayon to colour in the eyebrows and add shape on one end and then a chubbier highlighter on the other for the browbone. The colour of the Fair was perfect for me and it gave the brows a really natural look.
Lastly the MUA Luxe Metallic Liquid Lips £4. I am so in love with one of the shades from this line, Blaze is a deep red with a metallic sheen and it’s amazing. I will have to do a Valentine’s look with this lip as it is just so sexy! They have a slightly different feel to them than the Velvet Liquid Lip, but the colours are just as pigmented. Lustre is quite silvery based, whilst Flash is a metallic pink I could see myself wearing. Under the light they really sparkle.
