Kinky Boots

September 16, 2015

Kinky Boots has finally come to London’s West End. When I was in New York last year I kept seeing the posters and billboards for Kinky Boots everywhere and toyed with the idea of seeing it. Sadly I never had the time in my visit and now finally it’s in London. I was so excited for this musical, even though I didn’t know that much about it. However with Cyndi Lauper doing the music and lyrics I knew of course it would be very catchy affair.

Last week Danny and I were lucky enough to catch a preview and it lived up to all my expectations. Based on a true story Kinky Boots tells the tale of Price & Sons shoe factory, a dwindling business in Northampton. Where after his father dies, Charlie Price looks set to take the reins of the factory. With profits the lowest they had been in years, Charlie faces closing the factory down, until he meets Lola, a drag entertainer who puts him on the path to success with the in-demand need for heels for men, ‘Lola’s Kinky Boots’.

The cast itself was spectacular, Killian Donnelly plays Charlie Price, who after seeing in Memphis, I knew would be fantastic. He didn’t disappointment and played Charlie so perfectly. Lola is played by Matt Henry who you might remember from The Voice UK. He carries off Lola like I can’t imagine anyone else could. Where as Amy Lennox as Lauren had us fits in of laughter and the crowd along with us too. The crowd was so interactive, laughing and clapping and joining in when needed, everyone was definitely enjoying the performance. You might also recognise Marcus Collins as one of Lola’s angels, who previously was on X-Factor and also toured with Hairspray.

Kinky Boots review

The show is filled with everything you want in a musical. Catchy songs you will be singing coming out of the Adelphi theatre, a stunning cast, costumes that if you love fashion will make you super excited, plenty of laughter and fun, a few serious moments that might bring a tear to your eye and my favourite Lola’s angels, I won’t ruin it for you so just take my word for it on that.

Who knew a pair of boots could be so fabulous? I know I did. I think Kinky Boots may have taken place as my favourite musical and now I just want to go see it again!

Tickets for Kinky Boots at the Adelphi Theatre can be booked online at kinkybootsthemusical.co.uk.
