Hermès set up shop at the Saatchi Gallery for just one week for their Festival des Metiers exhibition. I went along on Sunday afternoon to take a look. The exhibition is described as a ‘Rendez-vous with the Hermes craftspeople’ and that is exactly what it is.
The rooms were filled with people watching the skilled Hermès artisans show how they create each masterpiece they produce. With each part of the Hermes brand covered from leather workers showing you the carefully crafted famous Hermes Birkin bags, the silk printer showing how the beautiful scarves are printed, engravers, painters, watchmakers, its starting to sound like a rhyme now, but they really do cover all aspects and it was fascinating to watch how they put it all together. Even the floor was printed especially for the exhibition with a Hermes tools covering.
The amount of work that goes into each piece is amazing and certainly helps justify that 17 grand bag price tag.
I managed to capture some moments from the gallery. Enjoy!
