ELP Barbershop

June 13, 2017

Amwell Street is a street which is going through a real resurgence at the moment and half way up the hill you will find my new favourite barbers, ELP Barbershop. As you may have read from my other London barber reviews, finding the best barbers in London can be a difficult task, luckily in ELP I have found my go to barbershop in London.

Walking into ELP Barbershop you instantly feel comfortable and you are most likely to be greeted by owner Emma’s playful Staffordshire bull terrier puppy Vinnie, although he doesn’t look all that like a puppy anymore. The shop is contemporary, deliberately stripped back making you relaxed yet with an appreciation of the classic barbershop. They always serve great beverages whether it’s a free hot drink in the morning to a good cold beer in the afternoon and evenings.

The barber shop has three barber stations and has a laid back open plan interior. There are a number of cool table books to flick through if you arrive early for your appointment and a retro arcade game in the corner. ELP has full-length windows on the front and side so it is always bright with natural light.

Being a morning person, I tend to visit earlier in the morning. Emma cuts my hair and as mentioned earlier her trusted assistant Vinnie is always trying to help. Emma listens to what I am trying to achieve, offers constructive feedback and is always personable, remembering what I was up to or where I was off to.

ELP Barbershop Review

In the last six months or so I have always been really happy with my visits, in fact I look forward to going back, it is always a laugh going in. It’s not just a haircut it’s an experience and in my opinion, that’s what makes the difference between a good barber shop to a great one.

ELP also offer their very own hair product range. The four products are; shaper paste, matt paste, strong clay and classic wax. I am a fan of their matte paste, it’s a medium hold, medium shine paste. You can purchase their products in the barbershop or via their website. Check out my men’s hair styling guide for some tips.

Haircuts at ELP Barbershop are £32, haircut with beard trim is £52 and they also offer a proper shave. Emma is my barber and I definitely recommend you visit and book her but there are two other great barbers to choose from also.

Find ELP Barbershop at 67 Amwell Street, London, EC1R 1UT. Book online via their website or booking form.
