Afternoon Tea at Hilton Wembley SkyBar 9

August 5, 2015

I love exploring London, sometimes you end up staying in your comfort zones, if you live South you never go North and vice versa. I’m not sure why that is in London, but I’ve been trying to venture to new parts I have never been to that much before. On Friday we took a trip up to Wembley for afternoon tea at the Hilton hotel in Wembley’s rooftop bar, SkyBar 9. The rooftop overlooks the stadium surroundings and right up into the hills, which to be honest I’m not even sure where that goes, but I just love a rooftop view. This place is such a hidden gem that we pretty much had the bar to ourselves on a Friday afternoon.

The skybar is a great spot for cocktails on the terrace or as we were having afternoon tea, inside the bar area. Our table was set and it didn’t feel weird eating afternoon tea in a bar at all, as it was all really lovely prepared. With the tea you have three options, the classic afternoon tea which comes with tea of your choice, the selection with Pimm’s or lastly with a glass of champagne. We chose the option which comes with a glass of Pommery champagne. The prices are really reasonable starting at just £20 for the classic up to £30 for the champagne.

For teas there is good selection from the standard breakfast tea to more citrus blends. Danny chose the Assam and I went for Orange, Rooibos and Cinnamon. A blend I have never tried before but it was really lovely and such an interesting mix. We sipped our champagne as we waited for our afternoon teas. You got one each, which was surprising as mostly you always just share. When they came out there was so much food, my eyes lit up and I knew deep down I wouldn’t be able to eat it all, but I would try!

We had a layer of sandwiches with cucumber and cream cheese, ham and tomato and mustard, cheese and pickle and egg and mayo. There would of course be salmon but we swapped this out due to Danny’s allergy which they were more than happy to accommodate. There were two massive scones with clotted cream and jam and then a selection of cakes, including a chocolate cone, strawberry cupcake, macaroons, a sponge cake and coffee chocolate cake. There was so much to choose from and eat, that we both did struggle to finish.

I loved our visit to Skybar 9, the food was fantastic and great value and would be ideal if you are heading to Wembley Stadium or Arena or if you just fancy a spot of shopping at the discount outlet which is a two minute walk-away and has brands like Adidas, H&M and Kurt Geiger.
