If you are an afternoon tea lover like me, you may have spotted that this week is afternoon tea week. To celebrate, I of course had to go and indulge in some cake and tea. I took Danny along with me and we went to try out afternoon tea at the St Ermin’s Hotel in St James. The reason being, well all through August they are offering an unlimited champagne afternoon tea for just £35 per person. I don’t think I really have to explain that one.
Inside the hotel you are greeted immediately by a very decadent staircase which leads you up to the terrace lounge. Here you can enjoy afternoon tea and also cocktails and drinks, which is a lovely setting and nice to be able to sit outside. They do have umbrellas in case it rains and heaters too, so don’t worry. If however the weather doesn’t go with your plans then they have a gorgeous tea room indoors too.
The hotel’s afternoon tea has a slight twist on the classic, displayed on a square display with a different cake on each shelf. Sandwiches start at the bottom and you will find, cucumber and cream cheese, smoked salmon and caviar, salt beef with horseradish and my favourite was the pork and black pudding sausage roll, delicious. The tea selection is very varied and I had an orange blend which was also caffeine free. Accompanied of course by a glass of champagne, which was always being topped up.
Scones were brought out after a little while, which was good to have time to eat the sandwiches and have them lovely and warm. The scones are a little different, you have the sultana, a sea salt and milk chocolate and strawberry. All were really lovely and was great to be able to try ones that were a little different. They were a good size too, not too big and not too small either.
Now onto the cakes. My eyes went straight to the chocolate and raspberry tea cake, this was a spongey marshmallow like base, filled with chocolate and raspberry and topped with coconut. It was definitely my favourite from the selection and if I had a second favourite, it would be the lemon & rose petal drizzle cake, but it’s too hard to choose. There is also a yuzu posset with tropical fruit, very tangy and a strawberry covered macaroon.
I absolutely loved this afternoon tea, that I may need to edit my top 5 afternoon teas in London now. You can book the unlimited champagne afternoon tea for £35pp throughout August and view their other offers at sterminshotel.co.uk.

August 13, 2015 at 19:53I never head of unlimited champagne being served anywhere. We were just in London a month ago, and that’s one of the things I miss the most, the afternoon tea service. I’ll have to stop by the St Ermin’s Hotel on my next trip.
