Appearing on Upper Street in Angel is a fabulous new tapas cafe & bistro, La Farola. I have been meaning to blog about it for a few weeks now as it is one of the best tapas I have had and have been back several times already.
The inside of La Farola is so welcoming, the windows let in lots of light so it’s a great place to enjoy this weather and I love the decor. There are teacups hanging from the ceiling and drum bases to create lights, the tables are wooden and the bar lines the back of the wall. Outside there are a few tables as well, which is perfect for al fresco dining. I have always managed to grab one of these, tip go for an early Sunday dinner and get one before it gets busy!
The food is just delicious, what’s great about tapas is the ability to try lots of different dishes in one sitting. I would recommend having about 5 or 6 dishes between two people, some of the dishes are pretty big so what we did was order a few and then went from there. The staff is so friendly that it is no problem to start with two and then just keep ordering rather than order it all at once.
Some of my favourites from the menu include the Montaditos de Jamon Serrano (Ciabatta bread with olive oil and fresh tomatoes topped with cured ham and lemon zest) these taste phenomenal and I just love them. The Crispy Pork Belly with apple compote is very juicy and the Croquetas De Bacalao (Salt cod croquetas with bravas sauce) are great for Croquetas with a difference.
Everything I have tried so far I like and there have been no complaints at all. Even simple things such as chargrilled bread, just tastes so good and great for a starter dish. See below the Chargrilled bread with extra virgin olive oil and oli sauce, Guindillas Dulces (Pickled sweet peppers), Patatas Fritas,Jamon De Teruel (Traditional Spanish ham off the bone) and Pollo Adobado (Grilled marinated chicken with romesco sauce). The ham came with almonds on top which when ate together tasted like ham and cheese!
For dessert there are various options but I always opt for the Churros and Chocolate sauce, yum!
