An Interview With The Glitter Beats

The Glitter Beats are a top new female DJ duo to watch out for this year!

I came across The Glitter Beats when they were playing the funky beats at High Street Fashion Week. The totally fabulous and fashionable duo is made up of Tayla Richardson and Osayuki Vanessa Omo-Uwamere who combined their talents to form this unstoppable duo. Their music is current and on-trend, not to mention their fabulous sparkly headphones, what’s not to love!

I put them under the Spotlight to find out a bit more…

So the Glitter Beats, where did you come up with the name?

From the first day that we met we knew we needed a name that would stand out from the crowd, so we had a massive brain storm of words to do with things that we liked and things to do with music. We came up with words such as bass, candy and of course glitter and beats. We tried lots of different word combinations, but loved The Glitter Beats as soon as we said it.

You were both working previously as DJ’s, how did you come together as a duo?

Tayla: DJing professionally wasn’t something that I had done before joining Vanessa, but I have always had a passion for music and love working with it.

Vanessa: I’ve been djing for over a year as a sideline to working in PR.

We came together on a website called ‘Star Now’, we spoke on the phone and instantly knew we had the same aspirations to work with something we both love….. MUSIC! Days later we met up to discuss our plans for the future and here we are today just 2 months later.

What’s your favourite beat of the moment?

We both love the new Daft Punk track – Get Lucky

What has been your highlight from DJ’ing so far?

Our biggest highlight so far has been being part of High Street Fashion Week; we have met some great people and amazing designers. We are so fortunate to have been part of something so big so early on in our career.

If you could play anywhere, where would it be?

We both really want to take our DJing internationally, so our top choice would have to be Las Vegas or Dubai, anywhere where the sun is shining.

You both clearly love fashion and a bit of sparkle, where do you shop?

Tayla: I love to shop on the high street or online, most of my clothes are from River Island or Top Shop, I love Missguided and when I need a dress for a night out, Lipsy never fails.

Vanessa: When shopping online I love a bit of ASOS and Missguided, on the high street when shopping for a night out Miss Selfridge would definitely be my go to and I love New Look and Zara for shoes and accessories. I have also recently discovered Renee London; they’re great for edgy and unique designs.

Which DJ’s do you admire?

We have so much respect for Nervo. Like us, they are a Female DJ Duo. They’ve achieved so much like Djing at Ultra Festival and supported Britney Spears on tour as her opening act; we would love to follow in their footsteps.
