Last Saturday I ventured down to Canary Wharf, it’s the second time I’ve been in that area in recent weeks after first popping to the Bare Minerals Launch event. That is when I discovered the Jubilee Place shopping mall which was pretty good and had a great choice of shops, one to consider if you live in the area. Anyway the reason I was there was the Ice Sculpture Festival was being held outside in the surroundings .
The Ice Sculpture Festival sees teams from all over the world come together and create some magnificent ice sculptures. The festival lasts three days and took place last Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the themes being River Life and Fabulous Fashion. We got there in the afternoon and the sculptors were still in the early stages of carving their blocks, which they had probably been at for hours, one sculptor had nearly finished this seal which looked really cool!
There was also a chance for anyone to have a go at carving into a massive block of ice, there were little kids carving ‘MOM’ and things. Inside the centre ice masterclasses also took place, where you could sign up and have a go at creating your own mini sculpture.
The festival is free and also has a little winter food market to keep you filled up whilst you watch the ice in process, although admittedly I didn’t stick around long enough to see any finished articles.
