It doesn’t take much convincing for me to go for afternoon tea, so when Danny showed me an offer on Living Social for afternoon tea at the Indigo Hotel in Kensington I was sold. I have stayed at the Hotel Indigo in Glasgow and really loved the hotel so I figured this one would hopefully be more of the same.
The afternoon tea takes place in the Mansion Bar & Parlour which is just to the right of the reception as you walk in. Inside the bar it has some lovely booth areas for siting, tables with chairs with ‘door knockers’ is the best word to describe them on the backs of the chairs and the colours pink and purple are the main theme throughout. We were shown to our table and greeted with a newspaper, not just any newspaper, this is the menu, very clever. Inside is a selection of breakfast and lunch and near the back you have all the teas to choose from. I chose the Pomegranate which was a nice fruity and clean tea and Danny picked the Vanilla Chai. When they arrived I couldn’t help but love the clear teapot and teacup, plus the gold spoons, a really quirky touch.
Afternoon tea arrived promptly and there was a selection of sandwiches including ham, cheese and pickle, ham and mustard and cucumber. We had asked for no fish so I think there is also a salmon option with it. The cakes looked great and were a really good size. The selection included a red velvet slice, strawberries, carrot cake and a cherry bakewell.
The scones were still warm, I really love that and we had one plain and one fruit, I delved into the fruit and smothered it in jam and cream.
Included in our offer was also a cocktail, we were presented with the Mansion Bar’s take on a Long Island Iced Tea. Rum, gin, vodka, cointreau, tequila topped with egg white. It was pretty strong so it’s lucky we had full stomachs!
We both had a great afternoon and can’t believe it only cost £21 for the two of us. The offer is still on the Living Social site for another seven days and you can book till August, I would totally recommend giving it a try as we had a lovely afternoon.
