As you may already know from my previous reviews, I love Illamasqua products! My main reason for this apart from them being totally fabulous is that they are so long-lasting in terms of staying on but also not running out!
My most recent try is the Velvet Blusher in Peaked, I was curious about this blush as it was part of their latest Matte collection and was said to have the texture like a cream blush but with the matte effect of a powder. Intrigued? Me too.
The texture at first I found it very weird. I am more prone to using powder blush and then secondly a cream, so to have a sort of mixture of the two is so bizarre. So I wasn’t quite sure how to apply it. I tried a brush and my fingers and found using my fingers much easier. I applied my Gleam Highlighter and then the blush on top and went on lovely just like a cream, but then left a lovely matte powder finish. What I really love about this product is that you can create a powder effect without the mess! No powder falling onto the rest of your face or bed covers for that matter -I always do my make-up on my bed!
Peaked is described a Dusky Rose colour, I’m pretty pale so I didn’t want anything to full on colour wise and this was perfect. What is really great about these blushers is the fact you can build up the colour. So I would definitely say go for a lighter shade and build it up to how you would like it. Peaked is a lovely dark pink and I would say it works well in summer but I think going into Autumn I will be able to go a bit heavier on my application and wear it slightly darker as it has that perfect Autumn colouring.
Staying power I did see it stay on throughout the day and didn’t have to reapply. If you like a powder look but the ease of cream application then this one is for you! Here it is on before I headed to the Hyde Park festival to see McBusted at the weekend, who were awesome if you were wondering! Velvet Blusher in Peaked is £21.50 from Illamasqua.com.
