ESPA Life at the Corinthia Hotel is the one of London’s most luxurious spas and Danny and I were lucky enough to experience the spa last Friday and boy were we in for a treat. It’s weird, going to any spa is supposed to be relaxing but I actually find going on my own quite stressful, maybe I am just not good at not talking to anyone for a few hours or something, but I always find myself getting quite bored. So it was really nice to have Danny with me for a spa day and be able to experience it together as a couple.
ESPA Life is located within the Corinthia Hotel and is absolutely huge. We couldn’t quite believe the size of the spa. Compared to the Chuan Spa at The Langham which I had visited recently, which we’ll call a small home, this was a castle. A luxury castle of relaxation that was. Which was perfect for after the stress we have had of moving home recently and also for me a nice way to relax after London Fashion Week.
We were both greeted at reception by the really lovely member of staff and asked to fill in our personal and health details on the forms which were presented to us on iPads. After a quick filling out, we were then shown round the spa and taken to the changing rooms. The men’s and women’s changing rooms are just a floor apart, so it’s really easy to agree on a meeting point in between. We decided where to meet and then went our separate ways to get changed. Inside the women’s changing room I was surprised yet again at the size. There was lots of room, plenty lockers, communal showers and also private change and shower areas. It’s also really bright whereas I think the men’s is slightly more dark and manly.
You will also find a sauna which was a really good size for being in the changing rooms. In your locker you will find a robe, towels and a pair of very sturdy flip-flops. Other little bits and bobs you might need like a comb, toothbrush, vanity kit etc can be found under the lid of the dressing tables in each change section. Sometimes you never know what to expect in your locker so I always take a few things with me, but the ESPA Life is complete luxury and you find pretty much everything you need.
Danny and I met up on the bottom of the thermal floor where there is a beautiful area to relax in with comfortable big sofas and the prettiest light display I have ever seen. From there we explored the rest of the thermal floor. This is the main floor of the spa and where all the facilities are. The lighting is so dark and relaxing and facilities include a swimming pool, an amazing vitality pool with air and water massage jets, seriously this pool is fantastic. A black mosaic steam room, experience ice showers, heated relaxation beds and also an amphitheatre sauna which gives you a full view of the floor.
Throughout the floor there are lots of areas to relax and the mini fireplaces are an extra added touch to the interior that I really liked. There is also a Spa Lounge on the floor above, where you can enjoy some light food.
We both had booked in for a personalised massage. For the treatments you head back to the changing room and wait for your therapist to come and collect you. They will then take you to one of the treatment pods. These are much larger than you would expect and I really like them compared to a normal treatment room. We had our massages separately and the massage is really directed at any areas you want to treat. I wanted to focus on the tension in my shoulders so my therapist did that and also worked on the rest of my body especially my leg where she said I also had a lot of tension. It was very relaxing the whole massage. Danny even said he fell asleep it was that good!
After massages we both headed back to our separate changing rooms and I actually had a bit of chill out time in the sleep pods. These are located just before the changing area and is a room filled with individual mini bed like areas, with blankets and dark lighting, a fire in the centre and plenty water and fruit. It is the ultimate relaxation room and perfect for after treatments.
We both really enjoyed our experience at the ESPA Life Spa at the Corinthia and came away feeling really refreshed and relaxed. I also spotted quite a few other couples on the day, so I think it is a great thing to do together for a bit of pampering.
A personalised massage is £165 per person and they also offer various other treatments. Look out for the packages, they have a Mother’s Day Pamper Package at present which is £245 per person and includes a 50 minute soothing massage or 60 minute personalised facial, manicure or pedicure, a red carpet blow-dry at Daniel Galvin located within the spa and a light lunch in the spa with a glass of Laurent-Perrier champagne or freshly squeezed orange juice. Sounds pretty good to me.
