I’ve always been a fan of Browns, their food for me has always been consistently good and each restaurant has a good atmosphere. Having just rolled out their new summer menu, I paid a little visit to the Mayfair branch which is situated on Maddox Street, just off from the busy shopping district of Regent Street. The inside of this Browns is pretty much like the others, but has more of an old pub feel. There are also private dining rooms which used to be dressing rooms for an old tailoring business Outfitter Wells & Co, who made suits for Winston Churchill don’t you know, that’s your fact of the day! One thing I do like a lot about Browns is the service. We were shown to our table and straight away we were attended to by our lovely waiter.
We ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and our starters, I opted for the Chicken Liver and Brandy Parfait which came with a rhubarb & tomato chutney and toasted cinnamon brioche. The parfait tasted great with the cinnamon brioche and the chutney really helped to add extra flavour. It looked quite a small portion, but for me it was just enough, I never like a massive starter as I can never finish my main otherwise. Our waiter also brought me extra bread to finish up the parfait! Danny ordered the Roasted Goats Cheese, the cheese was nicely balanced with the lighter flavour of beetroot and sweet pomegranate vinaigrette.
For main I went for one of the new offerings the Pastures New 7oz Burger, at just £12 this burger was packed with lettuce, tomato, mayo, cheese, bacon and pickle, alongside a portion of seasoned chips and ketchup. The burger is everything you would expect from one, the meat tastes good, flavourful and juicy and the chips were crispy and very moreish. The Shoulder Of Lamb was Danny’s pick, it was really nice and tender, fell off the bone easily and had a nice rich sauce. The accompanying root veg complimented it nicely.
Next up dessert, my favourite part. No matter how full I am, I always convince myself there is room for dessert, which normally somehow I manage to find, however the new Peruvian Chocolate Brownie no matter how tempting got sided over by the ice-cream which came with a complimenting cookie. I chose vanilla and chocolate scoops and it came with a double chocolate chip cookie. My other option would have been the fruit-salad which Danny had, but I was quite glad I never chose it as it had a lime & chilli syrup which would have been a bit overpowering for me, I like my fruit salad as it is.
Overall I really enjoyed my meal at this branch of Browns, the food was lovely, the service was perfect and the location is great. One to stop in on for a dinner pit stop after shopping. You can book on their website www.browns-restaurants.co.uk.
