When I was looking for recommendations for things to do in New York I ended up down the rabbit hole on the Internet and saw so many people recommending going to Bite Lip Lab. I hadn’t actually ever heard of Bite Beauty or the ‘Lip Lab’ so I spent the evening researching what was only to be the best find. Bite Beauty have a whole range of cosmetics and is available in Sephora which I saw once I got to New York, but the most different thing is the Lip Lab.
Bite Beauty Lip Lab is situated in Soho in New York and lets you create your own lipstick – let’s take a second for that to sink in. I was super excited about this and so made an appointment straight away. Their appointments book up fast, given this was about a month ahead, so I recommend booking as far in advance as you can. You can do a 1 to 1 appointment, or take a group of girl friends, which could be a fun day out.
If you follow me on Instagram you will have seen I visited the Lip Lab on the last day of our trip, the lab was quiet and there was only one other lady having an appointment at the time so it didn’t feel too busy or rushed. Because it was quiet, I asked Danny to sit in with me, so he could give a second opinion on the colours.
I took my seat with one of the lovely Bite Beauty girls and with all the colours in front of me, I was eager to get started. I wasn’t quite sure what colour I wanted to make, but I knew I wanted a coral for sure. So we started off with that and she asked me what sort of colour I had in mind, something peachy or more pink and we started off with a base colour. They have applicators and make-up remover so you can keep trying the colours till you are happy. I tried the base colour and from that we went lighter, then a little darker, then a little peachier until my perfect colour was found.
I also made a hot pink, which by chance I was looking for a more fuchsia colour and then by adding more red it became a colour I have never ever owned and so I just had to have it. I got to make as many colours as I wanted so I tried a burgundy and a nude also. I never felt rushed at all and the girl took plenty time with me and didn’t seem to mind Danny being there either.
As well as making the colour, you can choose your finish, mine was a matte but a slight creme to it. I also got to choose the flavour. So for my two colours, I picked mango for the coral and for the bright pink I went for a citrus mango smell. They both smell and taste amazing.
After I was happy with the colours I also got to choose the design of the case as I watched her make my lipstick in front of me, this is super cool. It goes in the mould and then in I’m guessing some sort of ice machine – I have no idea what this was but looked like dry ice coming out of it.
The lipsticks were ready super quick, they say 15-20 minutes but I’m not even sure it took that long and I was ready to take them away. The lipsticks are $45 each so about £30 or you can get two of the same colour for $60 so about £40. Which is a really great deal and just think a lipstick you might never have again. Yikes, but they do take your details down and I only got one of each but I am so super happy with the colours and love how they are custom to me.
Now I just need some names for them! Let me know what I should call them below?
