Last week I visited a bar – Smiths of Smithfield, where I had a delectable Porn Star Martini which came with a shot of Prosecco, yes please. My friend told me what a good restaurant they have so on Friday I went for dinner.
Smiths of Smithfield restaurant is located in the heart of Smithfield market which is known for its meat. This restaurant doesn’t disappoint with the main courses being steak and other meat dishes. There is various floors to the restaurant. My choice was between the Dining Room which hosts a menu moderately priced to the Top floor which is top-level food. Therefore I went for Top Floor! The steak sounded amazing, and if I’m going to sample this place I may as well aim high!
To take you to the Top Floor restaurant there is the lift which inside is padded with red fabric, plush!
Entering the restaurant it is bright and fresh, with a terrace also on the outside which gives great views of the city. I checked in my jacket at the cloakroom and was escorted to our table which was in the corner, perfect views. Dinner was early at 6.15 so the restaurant was pretty quiet but soon filled up and was thankful they even had that table left when I booked just that day.
We ordered a delicious bottle of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc New Zealand. The wine list is extensive and bottles go right up to three figure numbers.
For main course I obviously wanted to try the steak so we opted for the 650gm Chateaubriand, dry aged 27 days. I simply couldn’t wait and as we did our waiter came over with bread and oil, oil poured at an almighty height (skill)
When the steak arrived I was definitely not unhappy, perfectly cooked, juicy, salty and not too over filling. Thin chips complimented it and I chose the Bone Marrow butter which was amazing!
Dessert was on the cards and the sound of Limoncello ice-cream just took my attention above all! It was with a duck egg and rhubarb tart which when together tasted a bit like lemon meringue pie. My boyfriend had the 70% dark chocolate honeycomb slice with sorbet and what seemed like a mini pavlova.
Dinner was amazing and I am still dreaming about the steak, I will most definitely go back. It is pretty pricey but the steak is a must try. Oh and the Limoncello! Have a look at the menu from Smiths of Smithfield and see for yourself.
