MASH has quite easily become one of my favourite restaurants in London after a visit last week. Based on Brewer Street the restaurant is a modern American steakhouse, they have just won an award for being the best restaurant in London at the London Lifestyle Awards and also it is one of the few places I know that has Wagyu steak. I became a little addicted to Kobe beef in Miami during the summer so was desperate to go and try out the delicious steak that is the amazing Wagyu. I ventured on Wednesday night with Danny, we were still celebrating our anniversary after our trip to Paris so this was the perfect place.
As soon as you enter MASH it makes you feel very special, check your coat in the cloakroom and be guided down the grand staircase to the bottom floor. The restaurant is really big and wasn’t what I was expecting at all, it looked amazing. There were tables and some bigger booths for big groups, I was pretty excited already.
We ordered a bottle of white Sauvignon Blanc as always from the very extensive wine list and had a look at the food menu whilst enjoying the complimentary bread and butter, for starters MASH offers treats such as Fried Foie Gras, Caesar Salad and Tuna Tartare. I wanted to make room for all the steak that was coming my way so went straight to a main course.
We were toying with the idea of the Porterhouse, but decided 1.3kg might be a little much for just the two of us and plus I really wanted to try the Wagyu. At £50.00 for the smallest cut (grade4+ 200g) it’s not cheap, but as the restaurant were celebrating their first birthday they were offering 50% off steaks, so it was only right to delve right in. Danny chose the Uruguay Rib Eye 300g and we also ordered some massive onion rings plus some bacon and onion MASH.
I was so happy I chose the Wagyu it was so delicious, it is so soft and is like butter melting down your throat. I had mine with a peppercorn sauce which was lovely. It’s amazing to taste the difference compared to the cut Danny had, you can really taste it.
I feel like the restaurant covers every little detail, who doesn’t need a toothpick after all that meat!
For dessert I was spoilt for choice as I really wanted everything, not to mention the five dollar dessert milkshake on the dessert drinks side of the menu. We decided to share some sorbet and ice-cream flavours between us. We had Passionfruit and Pear sorbet and also Coconut and Hazelnut ice-cream, the coconut cannot be missed, make sure you try it!
Then finally it was time for the damage, I loved this way of presenting the bill as you can have a little joke about it before paying well….the damage!
I had such a great time at MASH, the service was brilliant and the food was even better. It may be a little pricey but totally worth it. Plus then when I came home I had these, a perfect couple of days!
