FLOWERS – Flora In Contemporary Art & Culture is an exhibition currently running at the Saatchi Gallery and I thought it would be the perfect way to enjoy an afternoon as we step into Spring in London. Flowers are part of our everyday lives, whether we’re welcoming a new life, mourning a loss, or celebrating love, they’re always there. We give them to our partners, family, and friends, displaying them at weddings, offering them as symbols of good luck or congratulations, and using them to spread joy and hope. It seems that every milestone in our lives is marked by flowers, each one a powerful symbol of meaning. The exhibition focuses on flowers as inspiration in the art world, whether that is through the form of paint, photography, fashion, film or music, they are an intricate part of our being.

KAWS NEW FICTION is a brand new exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery in Kensington Gardens and it brings together physical works with AR (Augmented Reality), in which you will need to download the Acute Art app to be able to view them. KAWS is famous for his bright colours and sculptural characters and this UK exhibition has both, his brighter canvases are hanging up amongst a mixture of the fun characters. The app will help you discover more as you walk around the gallery, if you’ve ever played Pokemon Go then you’ll be fine. I thought this was a great way to display works in a multiverse and add an additional element that you wouldn’t normally experience. And when you leave don’t forget to look for the works outside via the app! KAWS NEW FICTION runs until February 27th 2022 and is free to visit, view more here.
The Yayoi Kusama exhibition is finally at Tate Modern after being postponed in 2020 due to the pandemic and when tickets were released I tried my absolute hardest to get some and failed miserably. Fast forward a few months and I decided to have a look to see if any tickets were available and to my surprise there were. So I signed up as a Tate member straight away and this week I finally got to head down and take a look. The tickets are available for all, but the only tickets left were for members so I figured it was worth it and have already checked out a few more exhibitions at the gallery already. This exhibition has two Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirror Rooms, the first you will visit is the Chandelier of Grief and the second has a water walkway and is filled with multi-coloured lights. Before you enter these you will learn of Yayoi’s life and her battles with her mental health and hallucinations, which reflects in her work with mirrors, dots and repetition. There is also the opportunity to see one of her mirrored sculptures that you most definitely need to take a look through. Infinity […]

A roof terrace serving fried chicken and cocktails in the sunshine? I’m in! Coqbull has took over Jamie’s Italian building in Soho just off Piccadilly. It has three floors plus a roof terrace where they are serving up fried chicken, burgers, hot wings and cocktails, plus more-ish desserts like waffles and ice-cream and a warm cookie pan. I went down this week to try it out and luckily we were blessed with sunshine and were able to enjoy the roof terrace area. Starting off with a couple of Coqtails, Pornstar Martini of course and I had to try one of the Frozen Daiquiris, the strawberry one was perfect and they have a good selection of cocktails including Jammy Dodger which is a rum and gingerbread mix to Smokey Berry with Caskmates whisky and blueberry. For starters we had Popcorn Chicken with Habanero Mayo, tasty little bites of peppery chicken with a tangy sauce and the Halloumi Fritters which were lightly fried with gooey halloumi and the Pomegranate Seeds and Creme Fraiche added a complimentary lighter taste. I was torn between the rotisserie chicken for main or the Southern Fried Chicken, but the latter won out in the end. The Southern […]

I always love visiting art exhibitions and galleries in London and it is definitely one of the things I’ve missed most during the lockdown. Now as restrictions are lifting we headed down to the Gagosian Gallery for the newly opened Damien Hirst exhibition. Damien Hirst – Fact Paintings and Fact Sculptures is an exhibition of some of his most rarely seen works created between 1993 and 2021 and is a year long take over at the gallery. Fact Paintings and Fact Sculptures starts off with what looks like jewellery cabinets filled with gems next to rubbish bags and wheelie bins, funnily enough these are titled Idiot and other names I wouldn’t write here. Now some of the most famous Damien Hirst works are the dead animals in formaldehyde and there was a touch of this with the dead cow head on the floor from Hot Love, 1993. The paintings were what I enjoyed seeing, I don’t think I’d seen the butterflies before, there was the large Papilio glaucus in Gerbera, 2009 and also a blue Emma Swims With The Dolphin from 2012. Other works on display include a self portrait of Damien in the hospital, Self-Portrait as Surgeon, 2007, the […]
