Chanel have updated their cult classic Soleil Tan De Chanel bronzing cream and not only have they changed the name, it is now known as Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream, but they have also quietly changed the formula of the product. This has delighted some and very much disappointed others.
When I heard the product had changed I was hesitant as after only trying the bronzing cream for the first time last year I had instantly fell in love with it. There have been mixed reviews of the new version, so as my old one was about to run out I decided to delve in and try it. From the outside the packaging is now in the Les Beiges line and as also has a cream Chanel logo instead of gold, bar that the product itself looks the same with the chocolate looking swirl.
First off there is a distinct smell, which maybe comes from the coconut oil that is right up there as the second ingredient. This is what is having everyone up in arms as coconut oil breaks out a lot of skin. For me I have never experienced that so I’m hoping it will be ok and I like the idea of a hydrator like this being within it, although I am worried for it setting well on my make-up as the old version was definitely more matte compared to this. This one has a slightly more gel like texture on application.
Another new addition to the ingredients is dimethicone which you see a lot normally in skincare or in a primer and this is set to give that blurred smooth finish. I’m not sure why they changed the formula especially as everyone seemed to love the original.
Colour wise as you can see from the swatch, the left swatch shows the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream, and on the right Soleil Tan De Chanel. It looks lighter and slightly more warm toned. However on application I actually found it darker than the original on my skin tone and definitely more dewy which I preferred. The colour is still just one tone Universal.
Overall I like the new product, I’ll have to give it a wear test with my make-up and see if it lasts as long as the original but I think I do prefer it.
Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream is £42 and available now at Selfridges, John Lewis and Feel Unique.
