After a spot of shopping on Oxford Street yesterday and taking in the view of the beautiful Christmas lights, I headed to a basement bar ready for some well deserved cocktails. I am such a fan of London Cocktail Club so went for a visit to their new much bigger bar situated just off Oxford Circus.
The bar takes the theme of a ‘Gangsters Tequila Paradise’ and the décor includes golden gun lamps, gangster posters, bird lamps and red wallpaper adorned with London Cocktail Club, oh and not forgetting the chalk men drew out on the floor.
I had reserved a table for Danny and I and the waiter showed us to the seating area, which was just off set from the bar. I kept comparing the bar to the other one and this one is much, much bigger, with lots more space to sit down.
The barman sat down with us, I loved this really friendly approach and advised us to which cocktails we might like depending on what sort of tastes we like. He also brought over some water and popcorn whilst we had a look through the menu. Being 6pm he also advised us that happy hour was on, this meant 2 for 1 cocktails on certain ones, yes please!
The food selection is great for bar snacks and the menu comes in the form of a VHS tape, The Matrix inside if anyone wants to know. There are a selection of hot-dogs for just £5, plus smaller bits like fries, onion rings, hot cocktail sausages and breaded brie fingers, if your feeling like a dessert too they have a selection of lollies for £2 each.
We had the Club Classic hotdog which is your standard hotdog with mustard, ketchup and caramelized onions and Danny went for the Dirty Sanchez – salsa, margarita mayo, guacamole and nachos. We shared a big beer jug of fries between us which were fab. To help wash it down I had a ‘Maid In Manhattan’ cocktail, it was so refreshing as it has cucumber in it mixed with Bacardi rum, soda, lime juice and sugar. Danny had a ‘Gringo Got Your Tongue’ which was a mixture of tequila and chilli to name a couple mixed in.
I had a little tour of the bar with Keira the Events Manager, it was great to see some of the sections that aren’t open yet, as it will make the bar even bigger! One which is under way was the karaoke room, I was pretty excited already. The room has gold microphones hanging from the ceiling above each table and will also have Skull Candy headphones based at each table so you can listen into the booth of the person singing, pretty neat huh? I cannot wait for that to open. There is also a private section you can rent out which is great for parties and holds about 20 people.
After the tour it was time to have some more cocktails and take advantage of the happy hour. We had Mojito’s and a Jam Jar Daiquiri, both amazing.
If you are out shopping in Oxford Street this is a great place for after some really ‘hard work’ cocktails and food not to mention some top tunes. They play a mixture of old music, 80’s and 90’s pop and some R&B thrown in, or if you’re in the mood for a party they are open till 2am on weekends so get your party face on.
Thanks for having me guys!
