Godiva Chocolate Challenge

Last night I attended the first ever Godiva Challenge, which saw four finalists battle it out with their chocolate inspired recipes to win a five star trip to Brussels the home of Godiva and also their dish featured on the menu at one of Mark Hix’s restaurants.

The event was held in Boffi kitchen showrooms in Chelsea which was such a superb venue and a great place to hold the final. When we arrived the contestants were putting the finishing touches to their chocolate specialities whilst the judges were locked away ready to taste them. The judging panel was made up of Juliette Nothomb – Belgian Cookery Writer & Chef and Author of Godiva’s Life’s A Praline, Mark Hix – British chef famous for his Hix restaurants, some of my favourites including Tramshed, William Sitwell – BBC Masterchef Critic and Thierry Muret – Godiva’s Head Chocolatier.

Whilst the judging took place we were treated to some champagne and a selection of canapes. The strawberries were absolutely delicious, so big and juicy not to mention dripped in Godiva chocolate. We also got to try a creation put together by Thierry which was a chocolate mousse with pomegranate, it was absolutely delicious.

Now let’s take a look at the finalists creations, firstly there was Natasha Cohen’s Praline Mousse Couer, the presentation of this was really well put together.

Heather Bennet A Conference Of Chocolate included a poached pear, I bet it tasted really good.

Danny Kingston went for something a little different and very creative with his Candied Bacon & Chocolate Tartlet with Pork Scratching Snap.

I really loved Victoria Glass’s Chocolate Praline Mousse Cake it looked so delicious!

The judges were ready to announce the winner and that winner was Heather Bennet with her A Conference Of Chocolate!

Heather looked over the moon and everyone celebrated to her success with some more bubbles. A fantastic evening and I even got to take some Godiva chocolates home too, yum! Watch the video below for an overview of the evening.
