Did you know Dolce & Gabbana had a beauty range? You’d be forgiven for not knowing that they did as it’s quite under the radar I think. Dolce & Gabbana have had a make-up range for numerous years but it’s one I’ve never actually tried. It wasn’t until I was in Sephora in Barcelona in January and I saw it, that it sparked my interest again. At the moment Dolce & Gabbana make-up is only available in the UK in London in Harrods so it’s definitely on the more exclusive end of the beauty scale. If your outside of the UK, try Sephora stores and in the States SAKS and Nordstrom.
Dolce & Gabbana kindly gave me some pieces to try and I was very excited to put them to the test. Recently I’ve been trying out the luminous foundation, various eye products, a matte lipstick and the waterproof mascara. The first thing I love about Dolce & Gabbana beauty is the packaging, it stops you right in your tracks with the blinding gold and it just looks so luxurious, it’s one you want to have in your make-up bag. So here are my thoughts on some of the collection available.
Dolce & Gabbana Smooth Eye Colour Quad in Tender
This quad eyeshadow comes in a beautiful gold casing and has four eyeshadow colours and two small application brushes. It also has a little velvet pouch to keep it in. I tried the palette in Tender and these colours are perfect for my everyday eye make-up, exactly the colours I wear. There is a light base colour and darker colours for the outer corners.
The shadows themselves are so soft to touch and really easy to apply and blend, with a generous colour payoff. They lasted really well throughout the day and you can also use them wet too. There are 16 different variations of the eye quad, with lots of colour combinations to suit. I really liked these eyeshadows and will continue to use them daily.
Dolce & Gabbana Cream Eye Colour
If powder eyeshadow isn’t your thing then I’d highly recommend trying the cream eye colours. Cream eye shadows are something I’ve never really used, I’ve tried a couple but always stuck to my powder, I just found it easier to apply. With the Dolce & Gabbana eye colours I tried out two, Desert and Gold Dust and what I loved about these was the high pigmentation from one swipe.
Desert is a warm brown with a matte finish and Gold Dust has more of a sheen and pearl finish. I love the idea of Gold Dust for on holiday and the ease of applying it, whereas as Desert is more matte I would use that as a more everyday look. They both have staying power which is one thing I’ve found hard to find in a cream eyeshadow.
Dolce & Gabbana Waterproof Mascara Duo
Passioneyes waterproof mascara is designed to not budge in humidity and hot weather and resistant to water and tears – let’s hope there won’t be any of those! I liked the design of this brush, it’s a nice thin brush thats curved and so it makes easy to apply to each lash. I’ve definitely gone from hating these types of brushes – I was always a big thick volume brush girl, to liking these styles of mascara wands. They are just much easier to use, especially at the inner corners. I found the mascara gave a good finish, was nice and black and did seem to stay on well.
Dolce Matte Lipstick ‘Miss Dolce’
What can I even say about this lipstick? I love it! You may have seen me wearing this on Valentine’s Day on my Instagram stories. The colour is so beautiful and I don’t think I have a lipstick this colour. When I tried it on my hand admittedly I thought it would be too bright for me, but on the lips it’s a perfect pink with a beautiful matte finish, that isn’t too matte but feels nice and even creamy on the lips slightly, not drying at all. It has a slight scent to it also and the DG logo on the lipstick which is just beautiful.
Dolce & Gabbana Luminous Liquid Foundation
I always get excited to try a foundation, as I never quite seem to find anything to beat my Armani Luminous Silk. Dolce & Gabbana have a various foundations, so whether you are looking for something more matte or like this luminous one, there should be one to fit. I have the colour Beige 78, which given I am normally the second up from the lightest I thought this would be fine, but I actually find it a tad light, below I have it on with bronzer and it looks ok, but I would preferably go a little darker.
I think this foundation has an excellent coverage and I loved it for that, but given this is the luminous version, I found it slightly more matte and it seemed to highlight my pores and dryness throughout wear time, so it wasn’t quite right for me. I think if you don’t suffer from dryness it will work for you and you will love the coverage it gives. I might even come back to this once my skin recovers from the colder weather as the coverage was pretty impressive.
I really enjoyed testing out these pieces, with my favourites being the eyeshadows and the lipstick. Have you tried anything from Dolce & Gabbana make-up before?
