Covent Garden Dental Spa Wine Evening

October 12, 2014

A few weeks ago I attended my dentist’s wine and cheese evening. Yep, my dentist runs events and a wine one at that!

I have been going to Covent Garden Dental Spa ever since the end of last year when I popped in to review their special offer Christmas hygiene clean. Before this I was always pretty terrified of the dentist and avoided like the plague or is that the plaque? But when I met Flora and her team at the CGDS I just felt instantly at ease and decided to book in an appointment with Flora to have a check-up. Ever since I have been going back to get the treatment I needed done and there has never been any of that dreaded fear either. Everything has been explained to me really clearly and I haven’t felt like just another number which is brilliant. I have also enjoyed a mini spa day at The Sanctuary spa thanks to them. They have a members reward scheme where you collect points and can exchange for a half spa day!

Anyways let’s get onto the wine event. A handle of us were invited down to sample some of the best wines courtesy of Matt Harris from Planet of the Grapes and Flora gave us all some tips on how to be able to still drink wine by minimising the harm to our teeth. My favourite wine on the night was the 2013 Isabel Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc surprisingly enough and I even sampled some red wine, but it still isn’t for me.

Here are some of Flora’s top 5 tips she gave us on the night to enable you to still enjoy your favourite tipple!

1. Don’t swirl the wine around your mouth as the longer you expose it to your teeth it erodes them more.
2. Drink water to help neutralise the pH.
3. Brush your teeth BEFORE drinking red wine – red wine loves plaque so they will be sure to stain them.
4. Don’t brush your teeth straight after drinking wine, this will help not to aid the erosion.
5. Eat cheese to help neutralise the pH, cheeses are rich in calcium so help to remineralise the enamel.

At the end of the evening there was also a prize to be won. It was for laser teeth whitening and I was so excited to be chosen as the winner! I went for my treatment at the end of last week and my teeth are looking great. I was going to show you with a big cheesy grin but to be honest my teeth are still a work in progress. I’m looking to get a brace next year and maybe finally have the straight teeth I have always wanted. Watch this space.

Oh I really want to get my teeth laser whitened – have you noticed any sensitivity since or has it been ok? That’s the only thing stopping me at the moment xx

No none at all afterwards! I think you can have some during it, I was fine, but all just depends. Go for it 🙂
