Cocoa Brown Tan by Marissa Carter is one of the most talked about tans, it is the official tanning partner for the Oscars, has rave reviews on various beauty blogs and also one of my friends had been telling me how great it was, so of course I just had to try it out to see what all the fuss was about!
The main selling point of Cocoa Brown is that it gives you colour in 1 hour, which is great when I have been summoned on a last-minute night out and I’m as pale as Casper or for summer coming up when the random odd sunny day appears and the legs need to come out!
I was recently gifted the Cocoa Brown luxury gift set which includes a bottle of the mousse tan, chocolate whip moisturiser, body scrub and application mitt. On the back of the box there are clear instructions and advice how to use each product which was really helpful. It suggested exfoliating and moisturising for a few days before tanning so I did this before taking the plunge.
First up I used the ‘Tough Stuff’ 3 in 1 Body Scrub, the scrub said it removed old tan and exfoliated the skin ready for tanning, I found it did exactly this. Many of my scrubs are great for removing dead skin but don’t really take off any existing tan and this really does. It is a very strong scrub hence the name, Marissa recommends using on all the hard areas such as knees, elbows, hands and feet and avoid any delicate areas. The scrub itself comes out pink and is great for using in the shower.
Next I used the Chocolate Whip moisturiser, it comes out brown and has a lovely smell! The moisturiser is Oil-Free with Vitamin E and Panthenol, I applied this all over and before tanning I used it on the harder areas knees, elbows etc to make sure the tan went on smoothly, be sure not to use it on day of tanning though apart from in these areas. After tanning the moisturiser can be used to help prolong the tan. It left my skin feeling soft, non greasy and smelt delicious so I was very impressed with this.
A couple of days later it was time to tan, finally! I took the mitt and applied some of the mousse, it comes out a light brown and slowly darkens on the mitt, I started with my legs and worked upwards. The tan is really easy to apply using the mitt and you can also see where it’s going.
After an hour the tan had already come up, it was so quick and I was already able to wash it off. However for a deeper tan if you wait a few hours it will get darker, so I did this as I love a darker tan. I therefore had a shower after a few hours and the tan had most definitely come up, I decided to apply again the next day as I wanted it slightly darker and also I had a few white bits, be careful to make sure you rub it in evenly, I’m not the best at this but after a second application it was much better and how I wanted it.
My favourite thing about the tan is it comes out a nice brown colour definitely NOT orange which is very hard to find with tan plus the quickness. It doesn’t have a horrid smell and it is really easy to apply. It also has lasted about a week which is great.
I am glad I tried Cocoa Brown out as it seems it lives up to the hype! You can purchase the Gift Set at feelunique.com for £19.99 as well as the tan on its own for £7.99.
