Paris In A Day

November 8, 2013

On Tuesday Danny and I popped over on the Eurostar to Paris for the day. It is only a two-hour trip from London so we got an early train out and a late one back to make the most of the day. We were celebrating our two-year anniversary so was a good excuse to pop to the romantic capital city.

I wanted to make the most of the day and wanted to see the obvious tourist spots so I planned my journey out on Google maps before I went which was so helpful as no hanging around the metro looking like well….a tourist!

Our first stop was for lunch at the huge department store Printemps. The 9th floor cafe is self-service and has a range of burgers, salads and cakes for dejeuner, it also has a fantastic view over the whole of Paris. It was raining and a bit grey so we didn’t get to see as much. I had a wander round the store too, all the Christmas decorations were up, I loved the giant Prada tree and discovered some amazing only available in Paris perfumes.

Next up we headed to Notre Dame, I wanted to see the cathedral and also wanted to go to the Pont de l’Archevêché, or more commonly known as the padlock bridge. Notre Dame cathedral looks amazing and the inside is even more magical. We had a walk round and also took a seat in the main section, it is such a calming place, I could really sit there for hours. The stained glass windows and structure are breathtaking, it’s one not to be missed.

Being our anniversary we wanted to place our own padlock on the love lock bridge aka the Pont de l’Archevêché. I couldn’t quite believe the amount that was on the bridge and the size of some of them, check out those bike locks and the giant heart padlocks. Once ours was on we threw the keys in the river and tried to remember where we put it for when we come back.

Onto the next tourist spot, of course the Eiffel Tower. I had been up the tower before but never to the top so this time it was definitely on the cards. I’m pretty scared of heights but I managed it and I was right up at the top! As it was raining you couldn’t see as much due to the clouds but was still a great experience.  As we came down the lifts to the bottom , it was getting dark so the lights were coming on. It was fantastic to see the tower lit up and even better when it sparkled, my very own Fireworks Nights tower!

Lastly we walked to the Champs-Elysées, I checked out a few shops, mainly Sephora the make-up mecca and we found a great cafe ‘George V’ with such a great casual atmosphere and food selection. Whilst enjoying dinner and a few cocktails we wished we had taken a look at hotels and stayed longer before heading up the street to see the Arc De Triomphe and then back to the train station to say goodbye.

Thankyou! I know it’s such a great store, the one in Paris was absolutely huge! I’m not sure, I haven’t heard that they are, they so should though!
