Clockjack

May 6, 2015

There are some nights when you just need fried chicken. Clockjack in Soho covers everything chicken, from fried to rotisserie and plenty of chicken wings with sauces to choose from. We had been wanting to try it out for a while and finally our fried chicken cravings got the best of us, so after making a quick booking 20 minutes before hand, we delved right in to Clockjack in Soho.

Inside Clockjack it is much bigger than the outside portrays, plenty of seating and high table seats near the rotisserie chickens cooking.

We started off with chicken wings, in which there are various sauce coverings to choose from including; Chilli, BBQ, Peri-Peri, Korean Angry Wings and Glazed Teriyaki and Pineapple. You can order them in batches of 5 or 10, so we opted for 5 BBQ and 5 Teriyaki and Pineapple. I wasn’t expecting these wings when they came, they were huge. Normally chicken wings are pretty small so was really happy with the portion size of these. I tried the teriyaki first and loved it straight away, but then along came BBQ and I was torn. Both were amazingly tasty!

For mains we both ordered the fried chicken burger, with buttermilk chicken in a brioche bun with the usual trimmings. I was excited about this burger, but then I’m afraid to say, to be totally let down. Maybe it’s just my preference but I don’t like it when the bun is chargrilled and the chicken just wasn’t juicy or tasty enough. Danny not one to fuss over a burger, also wasn’t taken by it. The fries however were great and exactly how they should be.

For dessert we decided to share a strawberry sorbet, this was two scoops and tasted homemade, not sure if it was, but was rather lovely!

I’d definitely go back to Clockjack, I loved the wings and it would be great to try the rotisserie chicken or one of the other mains, I’ll just pass on the burger next time.

Nip & Fab Glycolic Fix Scrub & Instant Mask Fix

May 5, 2015

Just like Kylie Jenner, I am a big fan of the Nip & Fab skincare brand. My favourite products in the range are from the Glycolic Fix collection and recently they added a couple of new additions to the collection, these were an Instant Fix Mask and a Glycolic Scrub Fix.

I was looking forward to trying these out, as I loved using the Glycolic Fix pads and serum so much and really saw a difference to my skin from them. These effects were, brightening of the skin, smooth and spotless complexion and also soft to the touch.

Nip & Fab Glycolic Fix Scrub & Mask

First up is the Nip & Fab Glycolic Scrub Fix. This is a really fine exfoliating scrub and the grains can only be described like a very fine salt. It’s not harsh or sore on the skin and when rubbed in on a damp face you can feel it really working away to lift the dead skin cells. Once rinsed with water my face felt lovely and soft and ready for the next part of my skincare regime. The skin yet again looked brighter and what I love about this one is that, it really works into those pores and I’m guessing as Glycolic Fix helped me with my spots before, this can only be a good thing, getting right in there to fight anything clogging the pores.

If you love a gel face mask, you will really like the Nip & Fab Glycolic Instant Fix Mask. Applied across the face in a thin layer and left to work for 10 minutes, this mask has the highest level of glycolic acid across the range and that is combined with ‘EVERMAT’ technology helps to smooth away appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and also reducing the look of large pores. The mask also has amino acid which helps to brighten and even the skin tone. After using this my face felt lovely and soft and the skin felt tighter, not in a bad way but in a good hold all the skin together and youthful way.

Nip & Fab Glycolic Fix Instant Mask & Scrub Review | The LDN Diaries theldndiaries.comThe Glycolic Scrub Fix is £9.95 and the Glycolic Instant Mask Fix is £12.95, both available from Superdrug.

How To Contour Your Face

May 3, 2015

I was recently sent a contour palette from Contour Cosmetics. I heard about the brand through their Twitter page and from the results I had seen it seemed just the ticket to try out. The palette has six different shades to contour with, it’s recommended to use the first three if you are lighter skinned and the bottom three if you are darker skinned. I ended up using the top row and the colours were spot on for me and I was really happy about the shades.

I also got sent the application brushes, theses are a sculpting brush and also a blending brush. Both excellent and great for this look. It’s really easy to apply and comes with instructions for those of us that don’t have Kim K’s make-up artist to hand.

Watch my video to see how to use the kit step-by-step and get a really natural contoured look.

I am amazed at some of the things I have done, the events I have had the chance to go to and the lovely people I have met along the way. 10 Holiday Wardrobe Essentials

April 30, 2015

If you have a holiday booked for this summer, you most likely have already been holiday shopping, or is that just me? Take a peek at some things I’ve been buying in my latest shopping haul video. I definitely get distracted by all the pretty colours and pretty dresses, but I probably don’t think ‘what do I really need?’. So if you are currently holiday shopping, I have put together ten pieces that you should definitely have in your holiday wardrobe.

These are great basic pieces that can help you build up your holiday attire and will make sure you stay stylish. All these are from the high-street, as who really wants to spend a fortune on clothes for a vacation!?

Holiday Wardrobe Essentials

1. Statement Necklace

A statement necklace is always a good investment and the case is no different when it comes to holiday clothing. Coin necklaces were all the rage at Coachella and this statement chunky coin necklace from Marks & Spencer £22.50 ticks all the boxes. Perfect for jazzing up a dress in the evenings or a plain white cami top for day.

2. Beach Bag

Of course if you are sunbathing by the pool or taking a day trip to the beach, you need a bag that is big enough for all your essentials. This ‘Beach Please’ beach bag from New Look £15.99 has the perfect slogan and is big enough for everything, its also easy to fold to fit in your suitcase.

3. Reversible Bikini

Your bikini doesn’t have to be boring on holiday, choose a bright colour like this one from Pull & Bear and the best part about it, its reversible! No-one will ever know.

4. White Cami

You can’t beat a plain white cami top for holiday. This Boohoo cami is just £8 and will really last you the time of your holiday. Wear with cut-off denims, shorts or maybe a maxi skirt. The fabric is thick enough to cover up but wearable enough for the heat.

5. Sandals

Make sure you have a good pair of flat sandals with you. I always make the mistake of buying new ones and then not having wore them, result in a holiday full of blisters and sore feet. This ASOS pair are made from real leather and the tan colour will go with everything. At £16 they are a snip!

6. Sunglasses

A holiday essential of course. Why spend a fortune on a pair to have them break and ruin your holiday? Pick up a pair of on-trend mirrored aviators from George for just £3.50.

7. Denim Shorts

When pairing items, denim shorts go with pretty much everything. Great for exploring in and ideal to get the legs out and catch some rays. Forever 21 have a great pair of cut-off ripped denim shorts £14 that are ideal for a capsule piece.

8. Light Jacket

Surely you are going on holiday, you won’t need a jacket? Well with this M&S Bomber Jacket £35 you might, it’s lightweight and soft with Tencel® to help keep your body cool. Perfect for those days the sun just didn’t want to shine.

9. Casual Dress

A dress like this one from Forever 21 is an ideal piece to take on holiday. It’s light fabric and detailing makes it suitable for day or evening, so dress down with flat sandals or dress up with heels and a clutch. It just works and the light colour is perfect for hot climates.

10. Maxi Skirt

A maxi skirt is the perfect way to cover up. Whether you are exploring a city ( a lot of places may require you to wear something longer to cover up) or maybe for the evening this skirt would work well from Autograph at M&S £45. I love the apricot colour, it goes perfectly with a white cami or light blouse, team with the statement necklace and flat sandals and you are set.

What key holiday pieces do you look out for?

Mary Kay Eye-Make-Up Remover & Effects Cleanser

April 29, 2015

I have recently been trying out a few products from the Mary Kay range and have discovered two new favourites. When it comes to eye make-up remover I barely part with my Simple eye cream remover, as my eyes are so sensitive and either will go all red or dry, it’s a constant battle and so therefore I stick to the same product. However recently my eyes had been quite dry and so I ventured into trying something new.

Mary Kay Oil Free Eye Make Up Remover Review

This is when I gave the Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Make-Up Remover a go and instantly loved it. The product is a liquid formula that requires a bit of a shake and removed my eye make-up with such ease, one cotton-pad was enough and I never have seen my mascara come off so well. Every little tiny clumpy bit had gone, leaving my lashes mascara free and feeling really moisturised. The rest of my eye area has also improved using this remover, it leaves them feeling very soft and nourished and not dry in the slightest. It’s hypoallergenic and suitable for sensitive skin users like myself. At £13 it’s a good price I think as it lasts a long time, I have plenty left and have been using it everyday. What can I say I am converted.

Mary Kay Botanical Cleanser Review

Another product I have really enjoyed using is the Botanical Effects Cleanser £13, another product suitable for sensitive skin and comes in normal-dry and also combination-oily skin. I have been using the normal-dry and really loved the way my skin feels afterwards. It easily gets rid of my make-up and also leaves my skin feeling soft, clean and refreshed. As my skin tends to aid towards the drier side of the product, the flaxseed and sea kelp extracts which are known fatty acids help aid the moisturistion it needs. I love how it’s hypoallergenic and also fragrance free which makes it really enjoyable to use for my skin.

Mary Kay Review

Have you tried any Mary Kay products before? You can find out more about Mary Kay over on www.marykay.co.uk.
