Love Tapas? Love Salt Yard

December 22, 2012

As promised hen night part 2 is finally here!

Its been a mad old-time in this run up to Christmas, mainly sending lists to the elves etc etc and drinking way too much at Christmas parties so I have finally found the time to catch up on blogging.

Lets recap…hen party started off at the awesome Cocktail Club on Goodge Street followed by dinner at Salt Yard which awesome for us was across the road!

Salt Yard is a tapas restaurant, pretty small in size but the food stands out for itself. There was a pretty big group of us being a hen party, but they had managed to fit us all in the downstairs section. We had opted for the Christmas £45 set menu, so what they did was bring 4 of each starter, main and dessert for us all to share rather than having to decide what we wanted, which worked out really well as I got to try some new things I probably wouldn’t have chosen for myself.

Starters included Chargrilled Country Style Bread with Olive Oil, Fennel and Orange Marinated Olives and Smoked Almonds, ‘Nduja Croquettas and Parsnip Chips with Truffle Honey which were totally bizarre but sort of nice at the same time.

Some of my favourite mains was the Crispy Baby Squid, Squid Ink Alioli, I am such a fan of calamari but only when it is really fried, this was just perfect. Roast Salt Cod, Warm Mussel Escabeche was also cooked perfectly, super soft in texture and the sauce was very complementary.

One main I wouldn’t have chosen was the Pumpkin Arancini, Mozzarella and Pesto, mainly because of the pumpkin, but when they came they were what looked like potato type balls, they were SO good and the pesto on top added such flavour. The pork belly was also great it came with Rosemary Scented Cannellini Beans thought which I was not a fan of, but mainly as I don’t like beans, so if you like beans you’ll probably like them.

Dessert was definitely my favourite, Churros with Bitter Chocolate Sauce was simply amazing. I couldn’t stop eating them even though I was super full from all the food. The surprising thing is the food looks small but once you have had a few bits of each your stuffed!

I’d never had churros before and wondered what all the fuss was about over them when I was at the Southbank Christmas Market. Other desserts included Home Made Cantucci, Bitter Chocolate and Pistachio Fudge and  Tocino de Cielo, Clementine Sorbet.

Salt Yard is a great find and if you love tapas its definitely worth a try, oh and their selection of wine is pretty great too.

Merry Christmas everyone!!
