The Hawkhurst Vault

The Hawkhurst Vault

On Saturday I ventured down to the Brick Lane area for nothing other than a spot of tea and cake at brand new tearoom The Hawkhurst Vault, which had just opened its doors for the first time the previous day. Earlier that week I had an email drop into my inbox telling me all about the new tearoom from the people behind it, aka Theodore and James, who left their previous jobs as a landlord and accountant to set up their dream. I loved their vision and so headed down to check it out!

The Hawkhurst Vault name comes from an 18th century tea smuggling gang and so the guys have recreated that inside with a whole host of old furniture, you sort of feel like you’re in your granny’s living room. Upstairs is nice and bright with tables and chairs and a chalkboard menu and downstairs is the vault with quirky teapots, a Moet & Chandon mirror which actually came from the guys mum’s home who was throwing it out and various books and antique lamps to create a really nice lounging atmosphere perfect to drink tea in!

Now onto the tea, there are 17 in total to choose from, this is serious business, including herbal infusions to Lapsang and China’s rarest yellow tea. I chose a Blackcurrant & Hibiscus blend which was fruity and brilliant and Danny tried some black tea, which definitely had a lot of flavour. They also offer a selection of pastries and cakes, I had some carrot and pecan which tasted so lovely! With your tea you will also notice a timer with 3 minutes, don’t worry it’s not for you to get out, it’s actually the perfect time for your tea to be ready!
