Gillette Fusion Proshield Razor Review

February 4, 2016

The Fusion Pro Shield is the latest razor in the Gillette range. It’s everything you expect in a new Gillette razor; lightweight, slim, has multi blades and gives you a super close shave. The razor has been designed in mind to shield against irritation that can occur when shaving. A recent study by Gillette showed that guys take on average 170 strokes every time they shave and 120 of those are re-stroking after the shave gel has been wiped away and which can therefore lead to irritation.

The razor itself has five blades with the blades being very close together and with the finest edges, meaning less plucking and tugging of the hairs. As well as the five blades it has lubrication strips before and after the blades, which gives a much closer and smoother shave and combats the problem of re-stroking over the same area, aiming to keep your face lubricated. Being someone who suffers from razor burn and ingrown hairs it’s really good at ensuring all of your face and beard area is shaved closely and reduced irritation. There is also a microcomb to help glide stubble to the blades.

Like the Gillette Fusion Proglide the Fusion Proshield also has a flexball. The flexball helps shave closer to the contours of your face, especially around the tricky chin and jawline areas. If you have not had a razor with a flexball before it can take a few shaves to get used to it but makes your life and shaving routine more bearable.  Another feature of the new Fusion proglide razor I like is the precision trimmer, a solo blade on the top of the razor. It’s great if you are trimming your sideburns, beard or want to shape your facial hair and something I found myself using a lot with my neck area of my beard.

The new Gillette Fusion Proglide is available from Boots and comes in yellow and blue which has Chill cooling technology. If you already have a Proglide handle, then Proshield blades will fit.

I went for the Chill blades. I was really disappointed with the original Proglide, especially as the lubricating strip only lasted a couple of shaves, there was an element of scepticism, the Chilled strips are a massive improvement, which leaves a nice sensation on your face for a long time after shaving.

The only negative is the cost, but I’ve managed to get a pack of 4 from Amazon for under £12.
