After sampling some of the awesome food in canapés at Taste By Appointment at Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen, I really wanted to try dinner there and that’s what I did on Friday night.
Bread St Kitchen is situated near St Paul’s as part of the One New Change development which features shops such as Oliver Bonas, Mango and Topshop.
The restaurant has such a lovely interior and what I loved about it was that it made me feel comfortable straight away. In June this year it won the Interior Excellence Award at the Global Retail & Leisure Industry Awards.
We were seated very quickly by the maître d’, who took to us a seat just near the very large glass windows and also took our jackets and umbrellas. The tables are set around one large booth area and the restaurant is well… huge! The kitchen forms along the side of the seating area and above runs, I guess the best way to describe it is a massive wine cellar.
To start whilst deciding what to have from the menu we were given bread and I also ordered some still water. The menu is split into different sections. Raw Bar, Salads, Hot Kitchen and Wood Stone. Each offering unique Starters and Mains. I decided to go straight to the main and ordered a short rib beef burger with Monterey Jack plus a glass of Spanish white wine, 2010 Albariño O Rosal, Terras Gauda. Chips don’t come as standard so I got a portion of these on the side.
The burger was massive, but very tasty. So many flavours all together. I had to take a fork and knife to it as it was just going to fall apart otherwise. Chips were thick and great to compliment the burger.
Puddings are a wide selection. I chose the Pineapple carpaccio, passion fruit, coconut sorbet. I wasn’t sure what to expect and when it arrived it definitely wasn’t what I thought but on saying that it was simply amazing. The coconut sorbet was delicious and the pineapple added such flavour, a good combination. The only criticism I would have is I would have liked more sorbet as there was quite a lot of pineapple.
In the restaurant whilst eating they play music like The Stereophonics, it’s a very casual atmosphere which I like. After dinner we went to the bar downstairs and I had a Raspberry and Lychee daiquiri, lovely. There is also a bar upstairs which serves a full cocktail menu.
A great restaurant with a good atmosphere and menu, will definitely go back, if not just for the salt and pepper squid which is on the bar menu and very addictive! (This was one of the canapés from previous).
